I stayed in a private room w/private bathroom at Wheat hostel and it was great! Room was very clean and comfortable. Hostel is very cute and well decorated, although I was upset to see the birds in small cages (unfortunately this can be common in China).
The location couldn't be better! It's right in the old town next door to a street food area and is within 15 to the Qingdao train station (Qingdao Station, NOT Qingdao North). Would have liked staff to explain the area more/activities to do.

Location is it. And the neat decor on the inside and the nice vibe to the place.
But the shower water takes forever to get warm, there aren’t enough toilets to accommodate a full hostel, and it’s VERY POORLY lit at night. I tripped and fell and hurt my knee on the way back from brushing my teeth.
All in all, it’s ok here.

Cool hostel! Interesting old building with a nice courtyard. Fairly central location. The family that runs it is very kind and helpful. I was leaving town on a 10 pm flight and they let me store my bag and take a shower after I had checked out.
Depending on the kind of room you book, you may be using communal showers and squat toilets. Something to keep in mind.
